The hummingbirds are here .......

image002.jpg

A large flock of hummingbirds arrived a few days ago. It sounds like a swarm of bees when I go in the back yard where the feeder is. I had to fill this feeder twice today and it's almost empty again. They certainly are hungry little things.

I love to watch them as they fight for the feeder. Usually there is one really mean fellow that chases the others away. For such small birds they can be very noisy and very pushy. They will get right in my face when I add food to the feeder.

These birds will spend the summer here and have their babies. I have tried to find one of their nests, but have been unable to locate one. I think they are fascinating.

I've had hummers for about a month now, but I surely don't have as many as I usually do. I wonder if the dry weather has made them move on? Oh, well, this year I will make do with what I have here to entertain me!

I have my gang back also. They are such fun to watch though they have miserable table manners.
Usually after they have been here a while they get a little better about sharing a feeder.

The title of your blog really grabbed me because I've been trying to remember who did that song for ages! I'm a Navy brat who grew up in Tidewater and now lives in Southwest Virginia.

Holy Moses! I wish we had a flock of them. We apparently have three at the moment, one of which is an EVIL female. No other hummy can even look sideways at the feeder or she will attack. We love watching the show, I must admit. jan

Oh I would dearly like to see a hummingbird in the wild! Just one would do, but to have loads of them fighting round a feeder..........!!

We have lots of birds round our feeders here (in the UK) but nothing so delicate and delightful as humming birds!

We are trying to make your yard maintenance free, so I enjoy seeing other people's hummers.

We lost all of our beautiful trees in a 1000 year ice storm. It changed the nature of our yard from mostly shady to mostly summer. Even sun plants required a lot of watering and attention.
Looking at 75 or already there, we have deciding to spend a great deal of $$$ making the front landscape neat and nearly maintenance free from mowing viewpoint and flowers. We have some containers, and hanging baskets which I can still do.

Other areas have been tilled and covered with weed deterent cloth with three inches of good dirt and 3 inches of mulch that has weed deterent on top. We has some solar lights, and I plant to add some statuary but it won't be bird baths or fountains.

You have to ADJUST with life to keep on keeping on.

Wow, those are wonderful pictures! I love hummingbirds, too, but don't have a feeder. I see them about my rose bushes occasionally, though.

Lucky you and me, living on the Eastern flyway. We get the standard Ruby Throated Hummers here all summer. My Fuchsia are in bloom, just for the travelers who go on up North. Lovely photos. Dianne

I have a feeder that the hummingbirds ignore! They go right to the kniphofia, instead. Sheesh! I just love watching them, though.

Oh, that is fabulous!
We have ruby-throated hummingbirds that are super territorial, so when I put out the feeder there is an inevitable fight.

fabulous photos! I tried to get some hummer photos the other night and only got a blur. I have a feeder out at our new place and they swarm both morning and night. They can be mean little boogers when it comes to those feeders!
