I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas. We didn't have Christmas this year. Last Friday, I got a headache, sore neck, and started running a fever. Hubby was already suffering from a sore throat, cough, and stuffed up head. I called my brother and told him we were postponing Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals. I didn't want to infect him with whatever germs we had. I put the oysters and turkey in the freezer and went to bed.
I stayed in bed from Friday afternoon until Wednesday, only getting up every so often to stumble to the kitchen for a glass of ice water and some Advil. Hubby was stretched out on the sofa, coughing his head off and trying to handle the cats on his own. (Not an easy job if you don't feel well.)
I wasn't feeling better and couldn't get my fever down, so I told Hubby we were going to the doctor Wednesday. He went first and was diagnosed with a virus and was given two prescriptions. He has bronchitis and any type of lung infection hits him hard. I went next and was told I have viral meningitis. I was told to take Advil and Tylenol every three hours to get the fever down and that I should be better by the first of the week. My throat was beginning to get sore, which meant I was trying to come down with the virus Hubby has. The doctor gave me a prescription to take for it now before it gets too bad.
So, we had no Christmas meals or celebrations. We didn't even have any gifts to open. I had ordered a watch for Hubby from a local jewelers and it didn't come before Christmas. They called Tuesday and said it was in. I haven't been out to pick it up. Hubby gave me a Kindle which I have been using for several weeks. I never did go out to get the kitties anything for their stocking.
Actually, missing Christmas didn't bother me. I don't have big expectations for holidays. I've learned if you don't expect anything, then whatever you get is a pleasant surprise. We are so lucky when compared to some people in the world.
Will try to visit everyone's blog and comment soon. I still have a headache and can't sit up for too long.

I am so very sorry to hear that you and your husband have been so sick. I do hope you both continue to heal and improve.
Sounds like you've been very sick. It takes time to recover. The plague went through our family back in the fall. It started with grandson, put grandpa in the hospital, and the rest of us laid out at home sick as could be. We made it but it does take time. Don't push yourself.
Oh how awful for you and your husband. I often get sick after Christmas and has mentioned a scratchy throat to the hub just today. You guys take care. Happy new Year
I am sorry to hear you both were sick. I hope you both fill better soon. XXXOOO
What a dreadful time you both had! So sorry to hear it, and hope that you will be back on your feet soon and can catch up with the nicer side of the festive season. Best wishes for 2012!
OMG, how awful. Even worse as that you were both sick so no one could take care of the other.
Please take care a feel better soon.
Oh my! I am sorry you've been so ill. I hope you and your husband are soon on the mend and feeling like your old selves. Take care! I hope the new year is a good one for you.
You all really got hit! I hope you feel better soon!
Gosh I am sorry to hear you had such a rough holiday. Hopefully, you will find life a bit easier in 2012. Dianne
Ugh, how awful. I hope you are feeling better and able to get back to your routine soon.
Hope you have a Happy New Year!
Your psot title says it all, but home you both are mending. The bugs going around right now are serious. There is some meningitis around here, too.
I have been told to avoid crowds, which I generally do, but I do go to church and try to sit way off from some one.
Hope you are already better by now.
Holy smokes!!!!!! I am sorry to hear that you were so sick. Wow! That's scary stuff.
I wouldn't miss not doing Christmas either. I didn't decorate much this year. Less than ever. I like a little Christmassy stuff, but.....eh. If my family was closer, I might be more motivated to do more.
Oysters????? Mmmmmm!!!!!!! Now, I did have oysters the week before Christmas. That was definitely a highlight.
Hope you're feeling MUCH better.
Sorry to hear that your Christmas didn't work out and that you both get better quickly. On a side note, I had to work Christmas day and later on my Mother took ill and had to be admitted to hospital for three days. She's out now but the recovery will be long and slow.
Oh my that wasn't a very nice Christmas at all for you and your husband. We stayed indoors all day and enjoyed the holiday, but thankfully we were feeling OK. Wishing you a feel-better start for the New Year and taking a blog break until you are feeling better is a good thing too.
I'm glad y'all are feeling some better. THE BOSS and I both managed to avoid the latest virus making the rounds until after Christmas. With her and our youngest both working at Sheetz they get exposed to everything making the rounds for a good part of the East Coast courtesy of I-81 & 77 merging just a couple miles away.
Take good care and Happy New Year!
Oh you poor things! I'm a bit late catching up with blogs, but I do hope you are feeling better now. You have had a tough time.
Still, you will enjoy your turkey later on, I hope!
Oh my what an experience. Hope you and hubby are feeling much better. You'll need to take it easy for a while I think as it sounds like you were both hit pretty hard.
I'm sure the kitties didn't notice their empty stockings; a toy is a toy no matter when they get it :)
Oh my. I hope you're all better now.
