I have a new favorite music group - J J Grey & Mofro. I had never heard of them until recently when they released a new album called Georgia Warhorse. I previewed the album and immediately fell in love with their music. I would describe it as funky, bluesy, swamp rock. It's the kind of music that makes you get up and groove to the beat. It reminds me of the music I listened to years ago.
The band originated in northern Florida in the Jacksonville area. Grey grew up on a farm near the swamps. His music reflects his childhood and his love of the land and nature. He isn't into the LA, New York, or Nashville music scene. He writes his songs on the front porch of his farm and records at a small, local studio.
Listen to one of his songs. I bet you can't sit still!
It's "The Sweetest Thing".

Great music! I'm always looking to expand my music horizons.
I'm glad your dad is doing better.
I have never heard of "swamp rock" what a cool description. He does have a nice voice.
I am with Country Dew-never heard of swamp rock either. BUt we have some unique culture in Arkansas too.
When I moved here I was asked to attend a "clogging" performance. Well Clogs I knew were some kind of casual shoe which looked a tad uncomfortable. But the event was dancing in clogs which I learned was noisier than the music or tap dancing.
Swamp rock is a type of music originating out of Louisiana and Eastern Texas. Creedence Clearwater Revival is a good example of swamp rock. You can also hear some examples in songs of The Rolling Stones, Leon Russell, and J. J. Cale.
I have been clogging although it's not my most favorite form of dance. It is fun to do though!
Oh, I love this! Just might have to share it with my Facebook friends. I'll give you credit for introducing me to them. Thanks!
