Under the dome .......
There must be a dome that covers my little section of the world. It lets in sunlight and heat, but prevents rain from entering. It rains to the west of us, to the north of us, to the east of us, and to the south of us. We see lightning and hear thunder in the distance, but not a drop of rain will fall on us. When we have drought conditions, I'm afraid to use my well for watering outside. As a result my garden has dried up, the yard is covered with dust instead of grass, and several of my shrubs have died.
I was a bit concerned about the trees we had planted on 125 acres in an adjacent county, so we checked on them today. Evidently that area had gotten more rain since things were greener and the trees seemed fine. They must not be under the dome. See my little pine trees in the picture above.
Summer is going by so fast. School will be starting in a few weeks. We haven't been anywhere on vacation yet this year. We've been relaxing either in the backyard pool or inside in the AC. This week we've been watching the Olympics. Have any of you been following the games?

Have not watched the Olympics. Will be busy this week-end following the landing of the new Mars rover Curiosity. Your pine trees look like they're doing well. Hope you get rain soon. I don't like to travel until the kids go back to school and the summer heat is over.
Sorry it's been so dry where you are. We had a good downpour last Saturday after several weeks without rain.
We've been enjoying the Olympics as well - loved the US gymnast gold winner.
We've actually gotten pretty decent rain so far this summer. Seems all the passing storms hit us.
No Olmpics here, as we don't have tv.
Sorry you haven't gotten rain. I hope you get a nice slow rain soon for a couple days. I haven't watered my garden ether because I worry about our well also.
I can relate to the dome effect. Even when it does drizzle, there is not enough to measure.
Hang in, your plants may just be dormant. My gardener guy says to wait till spring to see if they recover.
I haven't watched the Olympics this year. The events I like, equestrian, don't seem to show up on my channels.
Hi Mary, nice to read your latest post. Yes, we have had that same non-rain effect on the VA eastern shore. And it's always amazed me that you can be driving along a road and either see rain just ahead or have just driven through a downpour, yet other stretches of roadway remain dry. Nature can be so fickle. Glad your trees are doing OK. Summer has gone by so fast and school is already started or will start before Sept in many states. We are not TV watchers, but have been keeping up with the Olympics through online news stories and listening to the radio reports.
I must be under the same dome as you because most rain headed my way splits and goes north and/or south of me. Haven't watched any of the games.
Hmmm, it has been that way in my neck of the woods all summer. The state of Arkansas is suffering the worst drought in its history, I am told.
The Olympics has taken over here as has the monsoon conditions, dangerous for driving in ... would love to give you some of it ;-)
