This old barn is across the side road from my house. I expect to see it tumble down any day. My neighbor's horses go inside for shelter and I fear for their safety if we have a bad storm.

This old building was our barn when I was little. I can remember going in with Dad when he milked the cow. He tried to teach me how to milk, but I never was very good at it. The cow didn't like my touch, so she would get restless. I would get scared when she started moving around. I think the only thing holding the building up is the woood stacked in the side.

This is the old chicken house at my Dad's. We used to have chickens that roosted inside at night. While I was still rather young, we stopped keeping chickens and Dad turned this into his shop. We still call it the chicken house.

I love old barns and farm buildings. We also had a building on my parents place we called the chicken house, long after it ceased to house chickens.
I don't like the idea of horses in that barn, either! However, I DO love old barns like this.
So wonderful that you could take a walk today. We're expecting more snow tomorrow night, are you?
That is one big chicken house!! I love old buildings and barns, pity they look better in a tumbledown state rather than all shiny new and sticking out like a sore thumb!!

It's great to see these photos. It is what we'd find on a ride through the country here. We are more in a suburban neighborhood.
I love seening the worn, no longer used for what they were built for buildings that are still standing and giving shelter. I can so relate.
Great photos and a lovely insight into your nearby world. I am fascinated by the fact that these buildings just keep standing. There must be a lot of lovely memories here particularly with the shop.
Wow they are full of character aren't they? It's a shame when old buildings like these get knocked down and redeveloped as many have around here. (Actually I'm being a bit of a hypocrite as I live in a converted barn! - still in my defense it didn't look full of character to start with)
I have been remiss in visiting as I've been somewhat occupied recently (trying to write posts, make blog buttons, oh yes and look after my neglected husband) so I've just been catching up on your other posts. I'm sorry to hear you've been having some trouble with your back. The weather no doubt plays its part. I hope you continue to feel better. I know it's annoying when someone says oh I have that too - but as a fellow sufferer I find the odd holistic treatment sometimes helps and if you know someone who practises Reiki, Shiatsu or Sports massage they can sometimes help alleviate the worst of the pain. Hope there is someone.
I love old buildings like these, I like to get right in there and take pics of them from odd angles. I think it's lovely you have all these memories associated with them too.
Wonderful post. It generated all sorts of memories in me. Those old buildings were built to last. Makes me think of the play and film, 'The Road to Bountiful'. A bit of nostalga too, I think.
Those are beautiful old buildings. How wonderful that you grew up and knew what it was like to milk a cow!
