Earth day .........

Today is Earth Day. If everyone would just do a little extra for the environment today, it would make a difference. For those of you who hated to see my trees cut down, as you can see in this picture, there are still plenty of trees left. Besides, five years ago we planted 56,000 pines on our land. I love nature and wildlife and support conservation.

We are getting a welcome steady rain today. Our ground had gotten very dry and I have had to water my garden every night. My squash and cucumbers have come up, but this rain should make them grow. My azaleas are all blooming and are so pretty. We looked into getting azaleas to plant by the fence. They were $20.00 each and we wanted 20 of them - a bit more than I want to spend right now. We're hoping we can find some cheaper plants. We got the grass seed down, so hopefully we'll soon have grass out there.

Whew, I wouldn't have been able to buy 20 either. They are pretty bushes though!

We need a bit of rain as well. Gardening can be expensive for sure!

It looks very nice without the pines. Sometimes trees turn out to be in the wrong place. My mother made beautiful baskets out of long pine needles sent to her by a relative in Florida. Some pines have short needles and she found those hard to work with. Our area of Texas had very few pines. I look forward to seeing what you do with this new space.

We've had a lot of rain here today too and we do really need it. Finally...April showers.

56,000 trees! I'd say if you didn't recycle a can or two, we still owe you!

Since you planted 56000 trees, I guess you can cut down a few. You are definitely on the plus side.

We got sort of a double spring this year; everything in full bloom at Mom's then everything in bloom here when we got back. Then came the nor'easter and we even had spittin' snow today!

Your yard is looking lovely, especially the colorful azaleas, ouch at the cost of adding more. I have only a single one bought for about $5 as a small plant and it has mushroomed, so maybe smaller plants would work for you and be less costly? I do understand about curing down trees as we have had 2 old ones taken down in our front yard because of potential damage to the house in a storm. One had a split trunk. We recycled the wood chips for the back gardens, so nothing went to waste. Best of luck on the new PC, which will be a future purchase for me too.

56,000 trees, Wow. That's terrific and bound to increase the wildlife in your yard. I see you have kept an open area too. That means you could put up a bluebird house and attract those lovely guys. You probably already have. Dianne

Your yard is so pretty - I just love the driveway. My grandmother had literally hundreds of azaleas and seeing them always reminds me of her. She used to put soil over parts of the lower limbs and then place a rock on them to hold them down until they rooted. I love the color of your azalea and your rose is beautiful!

I see your roses are doing well also. We have had rain but could use a bit more. It has been in forecast but never quite made it here.

We eliminated grass and have mainly green perennials like Chinese holly

Thanks for your comments on my blog. Apparently, the new system won't let me publish then either, only get them on my email. Ugh! I've tried the Google Chrome but it doesn't help. I'm not sure what to do next and my husband can't figure it out either. I guess I'll just keep fiddling with it. Sorry to post this on your commments but I didn't want you to think I was ignoring you!
