Since I live in Virginia, which is considered one of the battleground states in the upcoming election, I have been inundated with political ads, flyers, and phone calls. I counted the ads on a local TV station during one hour this evening. There were a total of 22 ads! That is overkill. I can't believe that there are many truly undecided voters who will be swayed by these ads. Many of the ads are filled with half truths, words taken out of context, and downright lies. I watched the debates and they were full of talking points and promises, but very few explanations of how the promises would be met.
I consider myself to be well informed on politics. I try to consider both sides of any issue and form my opinions based on my core beliefs. I worry that there are many voters who form their opinions based on the misleading and false ads that they are subjected to every time they turn on the TV.
Many people are very passionate when it comes to their political choices. Its fine to support your candidate, but some people have gone to extremes in attacking the opposition and anyone who supports the other party. Facebook is full of nasty comments and personal attacks. I try not to discuss politics with people who are so passionate, since my view is usually opposite of theirs.
It will be a relief when the election is over. Go to the polls and vote for your candidate on election day.

Oh, I SO agree with you. I can't stand this anymore.
I am passionate about my candidate, but I will NOT spew hatred about the other. I don't understand why both parties are being so derisive. It's really killing our country.
I live in Oregon. Polititions apparently don't know we're here, after all it's a long way from Washington to Oregon. It could also be that I've seen no political ads because I seldom have the TV on. Even so, I'm quite sure we have only a fraction of the ads you have. I've tried hard to eliminate politics from my mind but it's like living through a Texas sand storm. No matter how hard you try to block it you still have sand all over everything in your house when the wind quits blowing. So it is with politics, you cannot escape it.
I'm sick of it too. And I don't even have tv.
I have stopped watching TV and answering the phone!

AMEN! AMEN! In Arkansas our county clerk's office added us to a permanent absentee ballot mailing, because of our history of requests and reasons. We have already voted after the first debate. In fact we dropped the ballots off at the courthouse on the way to Little Rock for post surgical checkup.
SOooo I am tired of ads etc even though we are not a battleground state. Further no national candidate from President to Senator has bothered to campaign anywhere in Arkansas. I guess our measley 3 electoral votes are considered Confederacy currency...

You are so right, Mary. People should base their decisions on the facts and not the political ads. We also live in VA and the phone calls have been continual and we just hung up. Thankfully, we don't watch TV and not just because of the political ads, but just because it's not worth watching. Good to see you posting again!
