Birthdays and laptop ...............

I'm still here ... just been too busy to post. We've been going through a spell of things breaking down or not working correctly. The DirecTV antenna malfunctioned causing Hubby to go into acute TV withdawal. We got that fixed quickly after numerous phone calls. My washer doesn't want to drain water after the wash cycle. I'll probably look for a new washer and dryer since the ones I have are almost 15 years old. Our bathroom sink stopper wouldn't work - Hubby fixed that this morning. The kitchen drain at my Dad's is stopped up - I'm working on that by using Drano. The bathroom light at his house will not turn off and we haven't figured out how to fix that yet. We did buy a new stove to replace the one with the oven that wouldn't cut off.

My computer has also been cranky lately and has been freezing up more than usual. I've been wanting a new laptop that I could take out to the pool deck so I decided it was time to order one. I got a HP Pavilion dv6-3020. It was delivered Saturday night. I've been working on getting it set up. I finally got my printer to work with it just a few minutes ago. Right now I am creating my recovery discs. This laptop is so different from my desktop. It's going to take me awhile to learn how to do things. I don't have anyone to help me so I have to learn by trial and error (with a lot of error).

We had a birthday party for my Dad yesterday. He turned 96 on Saturday. We had close family for a meal followed by birthday cake. He enjoyed having everyone together and being the center of attention. I forgot to take my camera so I didn't get any pictures. My Dad always said he planned on living to 100 - he only has four more years to go.

We've had period of time like that, too -- we're actually in one as well. Don't you just love it???
Ninety-six is one heck of a milestone. How wonderful you've had this time with your dad.
Congrats on the new computer -- I'm sure you'll have the hang of it in no time!!

Happy Birthday to your Dad! 96 is a great accomplishment!

I've always found one thing breaks - the rest follow! Hope you get everything fixed soon.

Techno life can be such a trial sometimes!

Sounds like you have had some frustrating days, with things not working. But, WOW on a positive note "good genes" in your family with a dad who is 96. In the scheme of things, I much rather the good genes :)

Big time Happy Birthday to your dad. 100 is right around the corner. What amazing things he has been witness to.
I do believe appliance break downs are contageous.
Congrats on the lap top. I LOVE mine but hate setting up a new one. Good luck.

I have an HP dv8T custom designed. It has a standard keyboard, and 17" screen. It is more of a desktop replacement.

I've had numerous HP products and only one bad product which I did not buy directly from them. It in my opinion was a poor design as I used to build desktops myself.

Their printers are not rated tops in best color, etc etc but I have never had a failure and their PHOTOSMART prints are more than acceptable for average persons. EPSON and CANON make good printers for photos. I don't bash brands in blogging so the above are the ones I've found acceptable.

I am wireless in house with three HP computers and one HP Printer. One printer is not wireless accessible.

Happy birthday to your dad!! Wow, 96 is some milestone.

I hope everything gets fixed and up and running soon for you. It's so frustrating when things break and they all seem to go at once. It'll be nice to have some new toys to play with though!

My washer has a finicky spin cycle too. After spending $300 in various attempts to have it fixed, we are just sitting tight. I fiddle with the knob until something happens. I will never buy Kenmore again. Argh. The washer lasted about two years before the first problem. The dryer took less time to act up. jj

Oh my goodness!! Happy Birthday to your dear father. What a life he has led.... 96 years! I can only hope to see that many.

Hope you are getting things smoothed out with the new laptop. I don't have one but when I've tried one it's been confusing. You can always go on YouTube.. they have 'how to' movies on everything.
