Shelter .........

image001.jpg

We finally got some much needed rain yesterday. It was a real treat. It's been a long time since we had a cool, wet day. We're hoping for some more tomorrow.

I did worry about little Mollie Ann, however, since she has been living in the wooded area beside the house. I had seen instructions for a simple shelter for feral cats in a recent issue of the Humane Society's magazine All Animals. I had an old storage tote that I wasn't using, so Hubby and I cut a door in the side, put an old towel in it, and set it on the deck. We may move it behind the shed so it will be closer to where Mollie Ann stays during the day.

I don't think Mollie Ann has used her shelter yet. Mazie Grace discovered it this afternoon and she spent all afternoon sleeping in it. That's her in the picture. At least I know that one of the cats will use it.

Mollie Ann has no idea how lucky she is to have found the two of you.

Isn't Mazie Grace the one that went off tempting the Coyotes to eat her? It's wonderful to see her fast asleep in a safe place. She is such a pretty cat.

What a sweet idea....to create a shelter for a feral cat. I love the photo of your sweet baby catching some zzzz's in there. jan

Too Funny. Is Mollie adjusting okay after her surgery. Does she go inside at all or is she still skittish?

What a brilliant idea! I hope Mollie Ann finds it soon - night time in the woods doesn't seem a good idea!

That is a clever idea and I hope Molly Ann discovers it before it gets really cold.

I've never thought of doing that. Great idea!

Mollie Ann is one blessed cat.

That's a perfect shelter! I plan to do something like that for Smitty. But, I am afraid that he won't use it.

That is a great idea!

I did something similar when I had a rodent problem in my barn in Oklahoma. We didn't want the cats to get to the poison so we drilled a small hole in the side of a plastic box like that, big enough for mice but nothing else and put the poison in there. It was always gone when I looked.

Mazie Grace is a real pip! Of course she'd think it was for her!!

We did something similar for a litterbox in the house...without the lid, but a opening cut in the side for entrance.

Hang in there. I think the girls will eventually get along, but it will take patience. We have 9 here and for the most part, they have learned their boundaries. But, oddly enough, the two that really hate each other are calicos!!!

What a great idea for a shelter. I would never have thought to do that.

Our boxer pup, Rowdy, sleeps in a crate at night.... one that we had used for one of our rottweilers. It's elephant size and he has learned to love it.
