Summer Pleasures # 5 - Tomato sandwiches ......

Lately I've been getting lots of tomatoes from my garden. That means it's time to have tomato sandwiches for lunch. Tomato sandwiches are one of the pleasures of summer.

Every year I look forward to having fresh home grown tomatoes from the garden. Tomatoes that you buy in a store, even those labeled "vine-ripened", taste nothing like home grown ones. I like to keep my tomatoes in a basket on the kitchen counter. I think they taste best if they have not been refrigerated.

I've been getting lots and lots of cucumbers. The squash aren't as prolific, but we've had enough to eat. Both the squash and cucumbers are beginning to die back. The tomatoes are approaching their peak and the green peppers are looking good.

That tomato sandwich looks great! The squash and cukes don't seem as prolific as last year -- probably a good thing!

Ooh! How gorgeous! Haen't had a tomato sandwich in years! My tomatoes are just beginning to flower, and the courgettes struggling to get going. Beans are doing nicely, though!

Summer has gone into retirement for a while. Coolish, damp weather instead of overbearing heat.

We can't seem to get it right!!

Your tomatoes look fabulous! While yours are at their peak, mine are just starting to flower! My mouth is watering in anticipation of those first juicy bites of homegrown goodness.

By the way, I didn't have an email address for you, so I'll tell you here. I tagged you with an award that I hope you will accept and participate in. Go to my blog for details.
